When I was younger, I hitchhiked around Italy, staying in a tent in forests and on the side of the road. One evening we were camping in a wooded valley, far from any road. The sun had just dropped behind the mountain but it was already dark. I saw a light crest one of the mountains, about 40kms away. I knew there was an air force base nearby and assumed that it was a military exercise. All of a sudden, the light shot across the valley in about three seconds flat, changed direction very rapidly, and simply went up and disappeared. Thought nothing of it until I called my mother and she told me there was a string of UFO sightings around Italy. It only then crossed my mind that the light had covered the distance of about 40km in a couple of seconds.

I was hoping someone would have some information about this. All I remember is there was an air force base nearby, a radio telescope not far from us and that this occurred somewhere around 1978-80, thanks.
