With the event less than 48 hours away, 50,000 people around the world are expected to invade downtown Roswell for this annual extraterrestrial extravaganza.
“This is my second time in Roswell and I think the whole alien hype is cool,” said Kirsten Watson, who is visiting from Texas.
This year, that hype notch will crank up a few levels as believers and non-believers alike celebrate 70 years of the UFO phenomenon. With thousands of expected festival-goers this year, hotels across Roswell are filling up fast, and local businesses are now making finishing touches to prepare for the world’s largest UFO festival.
“The energy is always very upbeat,” said Molly Boyles, a small business owner in Roswell. “[The] UFO festival has so much going on! There is literally something for everybody.”
With the biggest expected crowd to date, Roswell’s local economy is also expected to boom. The city tells KOB they anticipate on generating at least $1 million in just four days.
Local business owners say they are now looking forward to a likely surge in customers.
“I’m very excited,” Lucy Dominguez said. “Waiting for the customers to come and see all the UFO stuff and all the festivities they do.”
The UFO fest kicks off this Thursday afternoon. If you haven’t booked a room, don’t worry. The city suggests a camping option at Bottomless Lakes State Park.
