During the Mars Global Surveyor mission in 1998 fantastic photos were taken. These pictures of close-ups of Phobos, one of Mars’ two moons, have been looked at in great detail. The images have caused great controversy ever since with no conclusion ever made by scientists.

When people find out about that they are going to say, ‘Who put that there? Who put that there?” – Buzz Aldrin, Apollo astronaut.

On the surface of Phobos appears to be some kind of monolith, and it looks very man made. Take a look for yourself and see what you think. In this series of images you can see Phobos from a distance and each time you get closer, by the last few images you can really see the object closely, take a look:

Some suspect that the object isn’t human at all, it could be from aliens. Some strong ET enthusiasts believe that Phobos is actually hollow and completely artificial. This theory originates after the calculations made by a Russian scientist called Iosef Samuilovich suggested that the movements of Phobos aren’t consistent with what’s expected considering the celestial bodies size and shape.

However, Iosef Samuilovich’s theory is rebuffed by some astronomers who say that the highly porous nature of Phobos is what causes the unpredictable trajectory of it. This doesn’t stop the theories though about the potential for extra-terrestrials to be active there.

No matter the truth the photos are interesting, and certainly, warrant more investigation. It would be great if NASA or the ESA could send up another probe to get better photos in the best detail possible. The photographic evidence is already strong, it is clearly a rectangular object, with a good shadow suggesting it is highly unlikely to be a camera malfunction. There is also nothing else like this on the surface, so why one only of these objects?

Alien supporter and former astronaut Buzz Aldrin fanned the flame even further when he said the issue warrants an investigation.

We should visit the moons of Mars,” Aldrin said. “There’s a monolith there – a very unusual structure on this little potato shaped object that goes around Mars once every seven hours.

The red planet is already heavily surrounded by enigmas, this is yet another one. Mars is home to lots of unexplained things, let’s keep exploring and try and solve some of these mysteries once and for all.
