CNN has been in a bit of a panic and has urgently started to delete any stories they have published on their website regarding President Trump and Russia. They fear they may be sued for spreading news propaganda that is fake, to the public in the US.

CNN Tied President Trump To Russian Investment Fund

Thomas Frank, a reporter for CNN, published a report that was unverified involving a Russian investment fund and claimed that it had many ties to the team of President Trump. The next day the news network had to remove the story from the website, and it was said that the reason it had been retracted was that the story had not met with the editorial standards of CNN and any links to the story were disabled.

CNN was asked to make a comment on it, but they did not respond, and a Senate Intelligence Committee spokesperson was not available for comment. The Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist had made a report that the Senate Intelligence Committee had been looking into a Russia investment fund of $10 billion and the chief executive had met up with a member of the transition team of Trump just four days before President Trump was inaugurated.

Along with retracting the story CNN also had to apologize to the advisor to Trump, Anthony Scaramucci, who had been mentioned in the story. He had been one of the advisors to Trump during the campaign for president and was said to have met with Kirill Dmitriev, who is head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. He said that the network was overseen by Vnesheconombank; this is a bank that is state run and which is under US sanction at the moment.

The report suggests that the meeting of Dmitriev and Scaramucci may have included issues about sanctions being lifted. However, a spokesperson for a Russian news channel had said that the fund was not a part of Vnesheconombank.

The spokesperson went on to say that the RDIF operates under the full compliance with the relevant regulations and legislation and the operations do not violate sanctions.

CNN Not Alone In Reporting Meeting

CNN was not the only one to report the meeting that had taken place at the World Economic Forum, which was held in Davos in Switzerland only four days before the inauguration of President Trump. Bloomberg had said that this was the first public contact between the Kremlin-backed business and the incoming Trump administration.

Scaramucci said to make a comment on Twitter about the decision of CNN to remove the story, and he said that it had been a classy move by them. He went on to say through Twitter that the apology had been accepted and that everyone made mistakes and then move on.

The retraction of the article by CNN came just one month following Fox News being forced to remove what could have been a potentially explosive political story that involved the death of Seth Rich, the former Democratic National Committee.

Rich had been shot and killed in Washington D.C in July 2016, and local police had gone on to say that it was a robbery that had gone wrong. However, figures such as Newt Gingrich, the former Republican House speaker, and Sean Hannity suggested that Rich had been killed for leaking some emails of DNC to Wikileaks.
