It was discovered by accident in 1963 when a local family was renovating a house; a wall gave way to reveal a passage that led to this underground network. According to National Geographic, It is 11 levels deep, descending more than 280 feet into the bedrock, covering an area of over 4 miles squared. It included temples, tombs, shops, living quarters, and even livestock pens.
