The Chinese government has announced that at least seven people have been killed and fifty-nine other people have been injured after a devastating explosion at the entrance of a kindergarten in eastern China.
At this current time, reports about the explosion are fairly patchy on detail. It is known that the explosion occurred outside of a primary school in Fengxian which is located in Jiangsu province at 4.50pm local time. At the time of the explosion, some parents were picking up their small children from school.
The South China Morning Post has reported that two people were killed immediately at the scene and that five others later succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Unfortunately, it is believed that the death count is likely to rise as at least nine people is reported as being in a serious condition. At this time, it is unclear as to how many children were killed or injured in the horrific explosion but video footage from the scene has emerged which shows that small children were caught up in the incident.
The authorities have not confirmed whether the explosion was deliberate at this point and have said that their investigation is still ongoing. However, it is believed that the school was deliberately targeted with a homemade bomb. According to a witness at the scene who has remained anonymous, the explosion appears to have been caused by a bomb powered with cooking gas. This is not the first time that small children in kindergarten have been targeted in this manner. Children are sometimes targeted in the Asian country in revenge attacks by individuals who hold violent grudges against other members of their community. For some witnesses to the scene, it is likely that the children were deliberately targeted in this manner by an unknown individual.
