Imagine if you would praying to an action figure from a popular movie franchise. Well, it runs out that this is exactly what happened to a Great Grandmother in Brazil. For years she prayed to a figurine that she believed to be the patron Saint Anthony.

But it turns out the figurine wasn’t St. Anthony at all but the Elf King Elrond from The Lord of The Rings films. The mistake was discovered by a family member of the woman by the name of Gabriela Brandão. After doing some research online, the younger woman discovered the error that Great Grandmother made and set out to explain to the older woman that the figurine wasn’t St. Anthony.

To the Great Grandmother’s credit though when looked upon closely the figurine of Elrond and the statue of St. Anthony are quite similar in appearance so that the mistake could be made. At first, it seemed like the woman’s family had a hard time getting her to accept that the figurine she had been praying to for so long wasn’t St. Anthony after all. But eventually the mistake has since been rectified, and now the older woman has a statue of St. Anthony to pray to as she originally wanted.

In any case, the woman can take heart. Even if the original figurine wasn’t St. Anthony odds are her prayers were heard none the less. After all, when we come right down to it when a person prays they aren’t praying to a statue but to the spirits that surround them such as the patron Saints of some religion. A statue just like crosses is only symbols and nothing more. So, it doesn’t matter what the figurine was, the prayers were heard from the right source, she can rest assure on that one. So, it doesn’t matter who the figure in the statue is where the prayer is taking place be it St. Anthony, Elrond or Yoda from Star Wars, what matters is that we find comfort in our prayers.

In her defence, the two of them do look alike and her prayers have probably been heard either way:
