Snow falls in Italy and the Virgin Mary weeps – could these be signs of an imminent apocalypse?

The personal diary writings of Matteo Tafuri, a late medieval prophet who has been referred to as the ‘Italian Nostradamus’ were recently discovered by researchers and are now causing panic. One of the prophecies uncovered by the academics claimed that the end of the world would be imminent if a specific town in Italy, Salento experienced a snowstorm.

“Salento of palm trees and mild south wind, snowy Salento but never after the touch. Two days of snow, two flashes in the sky, I know the world ends, but I do not yearn.”

… reads the ominous message left by the soothsayer. Now, southern Italy is experiencing a highly unusual spate of snowstorms with some areas reportedly being blanketed with snow. One of the towns affected by the curious weather conditions include Salento which has been experiencing sporadic bursts of snow for the past two days. This has led some observers to believe that Tafuri’s prophecy of the end of the world could be about to come true.

This unusual weather is not the only sign of something amiss in the forces of the universe in the past week. The freak snowstorms come only days after tears were spotted falling from the eyes of a painting of the Virgin Mary in Macedonia. This action has also been associated with a coming of the end times.

Witnesses to the weeping painting have claimed that the phenomenon started on New Year’s Day, exactly one week before Orthodox Christians gather together to celebrate Christmas. The priest, who was alerted to the crying painting at a morning service immediately took out some wool and wiped it against the tear. When he smelled the wool, he told his parishioners that the tears smelled of myrrh. Myrrh was a common ointment in the Biblical era used for the anointment of dead bodies. In the New Testament, the substance often evoked as symbolism of the inevitable death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
