They say that love will help a person accomplish an insurmountable task. In this case, the story of love is with regards to a four-year-old girl who walked miles through the vast Siberian wasteland and its freezing terrain to reach her grandmother. A criminal case has been opened against her mother for neglect, but this is a telling tale of what love will drive people to try and accomplish for the ones that they love.
The child, Saglana Salchak, had been living with her grandparents in a remote forest near the Mongolian border. Her grandparents’ home was more than twelve miles away from the nearest village. When her grandmother was not moving, she figured that it was necessary to take actions into her own hands on what to do next as her grandfather was very old and completely blind. Someone had to take action and this brave young girl did exactly that.
Setting out with only a box of matches, she marched through the early Siberian morning where the temperatures were very low. The amount of risk that she faced from the elements and the local wilderness was a task that even experienced men and women would deem challenging. Still, she kept her motivation high and trudged through the chest-high levels of snow, motivated to find help for her grandmother.
The brave girl was motivated by the love that she had for her ailing grandmother, doing what most of us would never set out to do, even if there were an emergency. In today’s culture, we rely so heavily on outside sources to help us with everything that this seems like a superhuman feat. The sheer impossibility of surviving in the Siberian wilderness adds to the impressive nature of this story and there is no doubt that this little girl is an absolute hero.
