New Evidence Reveals That Mother Teresa And Vatican Were Worse Than People Imagined.
Mother Teresa is a recognized humanitarian and the Nobel Prize winner in1979 and respected by many around the world. However, recently there has been a new look into her reputation and evidence has suggested that along with the Vatican both were far worse than people ever imagined.
One Of Most Admired People Around The World Had A Different Side
Mother Teresa is said to be one of the most admired women around the globe, but Christopher Hitchens has exposed a very different side to her in a book with the title of “The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice”. The book attracted criticism around the globe but surprisingly Hitchens has never been taken to court and sued for slander, and neither have any of the claims that he makes in the book been refuted. There has also not been any word to come from the Mother Teresa Foundation or from the Vatican.
Hallowed Image Was Constructed In Media Campaign
It seems that Hitchens may not be the only person who is exposing a different side to Mother Teresa. A paper from the University of Montreal, which is a peer reviewed paper, may be about to make claims that are even bolder against Mother Teresa. The university released a press release saying that the myth of generosity that surrounds Mother Teresa has been dispelled in a paper that has been written by Serge Larivee along with Genevieve Chenard from the Department of Psychoeducation. The paper was published in March and is said to be an analysis of the writings that had been published by Mother Teresa. The researchers of the paper reach the conclusion that the hallowed image portrayed does not stand up when analyzed and the facts were constructed by a campaign from media relations.
The study involved three researchers who collected more than 500 documents about the life along with the work of Mother Teresa. After ruling out 195 duplicated they looked at the 287 documents and conducted analysis and represented 96% of literature and came up with facts that all debunk the myth that surrounds Mother Teresa.
Serge Larivee along with other researchers cited many issues that had not been taken into consideration by the Vatican during the beatification process of Mother Teresa. One of which was said to be the dubious way that she cared for the sick. Others included political contacts that were said to be questionable, her dogmatic views on contraception, abortion and divorce and the huge amounts of money she was said to have received.
Researchers Reveal Alleged Wrong Doings Of Mother Teresa
They also gave quotes where the researchers explained different types of wrong-doing along with things that they thought Mother Teresa had engaged in.
In the press release, it was alleged that Mother Teresa sometimes failed to provide medical care that was adequate and instead took joy in the suffering of her patients. It was said that when she died Mother Teresa has opened up more than 517 missions that welcomed the sick and poor people that were located in over 100 countries. The missions were said to be homes for people who were dying and many were in Calcutta. It was said that about two-thirds of the people who came to the missions expected a doctor to provide treatment but a third of people were left to die without receiving the care needed. The research found that there was a lack of hygiene, conditions that were unfit, shortage of care and no medication, including pain killers. One of the main issues was said not be a lack of money as the foundation raised many hundreds of millions of dollars, but instead the concept of death and suffering. When Mother Teresa herself required care, she got it in a modern day American hospital.
Hidden Bank Accounts, Generous With Prayers But Not Money
The researchers found that Mother Teresa received money from sources that were said to be dubious, however very little of it was actually used in helping others. While Mother Theresa might have been extremely generous with her prayers, she was a miser with the millions of dollars her foundation accumulated. She gave prayers during the many floods in India and pesticide plant explosion in Bhopal; however, she did not give any money. Many of the accounts of Mother Theresa were kept secret, including one where she got a grant from dictatorship in Haiti, which involved many millions of dollars being transferred to various bank accounts.
Beatification Of Mother Theresa Not Based On Genuine Miracles
Perhaps one of the most damning findings was the involvement of Mother Theresa with Malcolm Muggeridge and the beatification not being based on miracles that were genuine. Muggeridge made a film in 1969 about the missionary and promoted what was said to be the first photographic miracle. Mother Teresa then travelled the world and was given numerous awards, one of which was the Nobel Peace Prize.
In an acceptance speech about Bosnian women who had been raped by the Serbs who were looking at getting abortions, Mother Teresa went on to say that she thought the biggest peace destroyer was abortion. She went on to say that it was direct killing and direct murder by the mother of the child. After Mother Teresa passed away, the Vatican waived the waiting period of five years to open a beatification process. The miracle that had been attributed to her was said to have been the healing of a woman who had been suffering from intestinal pain that was said to be intense. The woman had said that Mother Teresa blessed a medallion and put it upon her stomach and she was cured. However, doctors said that the ovarian cyst along with tuberculosis that the woman was suffering had been cured through modern day drugs. The Vatican quickly said that it was a miracle.
Claims Support The Work Of Hitchens
It does seem that the claims do support the work of Hitchens in his book. But why would the press release try to undo a lot of their own claims? The authors have said that they are providing evidence that Mother Teresa’s image does provide an effect that is positive for the people around the globe. The claims of Hitchens will now no longer be dismissed by academics as a peer-reviewed paper as it does have more weight than single research from an author. However, it is a call to raise the awareness of people instead of just having to rely on the image that people are given of Mother Teresa. It appears that Mother Teresa may not be the flawless woman that she was made out to be.
