First, I'm not saying I saw a flying saucer from another world, I'm just saying I don't know what I saw.
I was on vacation in Costa Rica learning how to surf. The hotel staff had advised against walking the beach at night as the locals like to steal shit and can get a little hostile, but being dumb Americans we figured we'd be fine. The surf hotel had a bonfire by the beach so we hung out there for a bit until the sun set and then went for a walk.
We, my gf and I, had been walking maybe 30 minutes and it was pretty dark. Out on the water there were boats only discernible by their running lights. I'm not sure if they were anchored, or fishing, but there was a bunch of them, 20+ I would say. Looking back towards the town you could see the lights of the hotels and beach bars but that's about it. So we're walking along, actually talking about the boats, I had noticed them during the day while I was surfing, wondering what they were doing, when all at once, no joke, the lights on all the boats went out. We both looked at each other thinking that's odd, then I looked back towards the town and all the lights in the town appeared to have gone out as well. It wasn't super late so the bars should still be open, the first thought was that maybe there was a power failure, but that wouldn't explain the boat lights going out. So we're standing there trying to make sense of this when my gf says: do you see that? I look back towards town, the direction she is looking, and there are lights moving across the sky. I couldn't honestly say what it was, it didn't seem very high, but it also didn't seem to be making any sound. So we watched this thing glide across the sky, not super fast, but at a decent speed, and then it disappeared out of sight. We both agreed it didn't seem like a plane, but didn't know what else it could have been, moving at that speed, at a seemingly low altitude with no sound. I would say a minute or two later the lights on the boats flickered on again, we both turned and looked back towards the town which was now lit up again. We joked about seeing our first UFO together, but honestly neither of us really knew what we just saw.
When we got back to the hotel I stopped in at the outdoor tiki bar and got a drink. I asked the bartender about the lights going out and he said they just had a short power outage, it happens from time to time. I then asked about the "plane" flying by during that time and he just looked at me kind of weird and said planes don't generally fly over the town. So I told him the whole story and he laughed and started speaking to one of his coworkers. I'm not sure what he was saying, I don't speak Spanish. They then went on to tell me about the various UFO sightings in the town. No one was taking it very seriously, more like drinking and joking around, but apparently there are sightings there now an then.
Anyway, that's my story, I don't know what it was.
