NASA have formally denied the numerous recent sightings of unidentified flying objects close to the international space station.
Because of the numerous cameras inside and outside of the space station, anyone with an internet connection can essentially see anything flying close to it. This has lead to hundreds of eager UFO searchers scouring the footage every day in hopes of seeing an alien spacecraft. With numerous individuals and UFO organizations now claiming that they have seen them.
An official statement from a NASA spokesperson gave the usual reasoning for denying the sightings:
“No unidentified objects in the popular sense have been seen from the International Space Station. Reflections from station windows, the spacecraft structure itself or lights from Earth commonly appear as artifacts in photos and videos from the orbiting laboratory.”
Astronauts have echoed the sentiment, with two NASA veterans having recently claimed that the space agency has no knowledge of alien life. Both Tom Jones and Alan Bean have in recent interviews categorically stated that NASA had not encountered aliens. Jones said specifically of the space station sightings:
“Reports of unidentified flying objects in images returned from the shuttle or station have turned out to be ice crystals, drifting orbital debris, lightning flashes, or meteors streaking through the dark atmosphere below. So far, our search for extraterrestrial life ― and other civilizations in space ― has turned up no proof of alien civilizations.”
While there are lots of objects in space and earth orbit which are of little interest in most cases, not every one of the sightings can always be identified. Undoubtedly the majority of these items are nothing more than the debris and ice crystals that NASA is claiming. The fact that ground telescopes have yet to pick up any of the items seen through the space station cameras suggests that they are very small and as such, not likely to be alien craft.
UFO organizations often claim that even when something cannot be explained away by the usual reasons NASA gives, their sightings aren’t given any credence. Further, they often claim that NASA deliberately covers up any kind of alien evidence, often making it disappear or discrediting it publicly.
Few of these sightings have made it into the mainstream media, especially since most could be chalked up to ice particles of debris. If and when a sighting is made that is categorically and visibly not anything but an unidentified craft, NASA will have some more difficult questions to face.
