Right now it may seem as if deep space travel is something that is out of our reach. After all, things such as warp drive, propulsion systems, and even high power thrusters seem like something straight out of science fiction. As if we were referring to a Star Trek series but turns out this could very soon be a reality.

NASA has been working on a new type of propulsion system that is high powered and could actually take us even further into space. This new device is being created by a group of engineers at the Glenn Research Center at NASA. This new revolutionary system is said to be three times more powerful than anything used in the past.

The new device houses advance hall thrusters that NASA feels are essential to the future of space travel. These thrusters are now being tested in simulated test to see how these will perform in the future. The plan is to eventually use these along with a solar electric propulsion system. Together the two elements could not only take man further into space but create a cost-effective way to do so. One of the reasons why if this system goes according to plan it will take at least ten times less fuel and energy to use that system of the past.

Right now the device remains in test mode, but there are already plans in work to put it to the actual test. NASA plans to use these thrusters on the Asteroid Redirect Robotic Mission. This exploration will be the first time that NASA will attempt deeper space travel, yes no one on board, but still progress. The whole project of the mission will cost over a billion dollars, but in the end, will move space travel even further toward the future.
