For as long as mankind has existed we have wondered whether we are alone. Glimpses at the moon, the stars and what lie beyond have always led us to believe that there must be some other form of intelligent life out there. Scientific discoveries and the mapping of the universe have enabled us to grasp to the sheer scope of what does, in fact, lie beyond the tiny glimpse we can see with the naked eye and it seems more and more absurd to assume that we are the only intelligent species in existence.

Aliens Found Us, But We’re “Not Worthy!”

Acclaimed Astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson believed that other intelligent life may well exist and that it may have already observed our own planet and culture and deemed it unworthy of communicating with! Tyson told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that it is possible that other planets in existence predate ours by a long way, making the assumption that we are the only intelligent species in history a very strange one.

Tyson believes that some of our technologies, such as radio waves, could be unreadable by other intelligent lifeforms – causing a cursory glance of our planet to appear uninhabited. Not everyone agrees with him, though. Many have pointed to our roads, our giant man-made structures, our monolithic cities as being easily observable examples of the presence of an intelligent species.

Both views are possible, of course. Tyson’s is intriguing, though. Just because we have not been made aware of any surveying of earth by another intelligent species absolutely does not constitute proof that one doesn’t exist. It may very well be in the interests of such a species to remain undetected, for a variety of reasons. This is something we cannot make any real definitive statement on, at this time.

Everything remains possible, which is actually very exciting when you think about it!
