The #1 Paranormal News Site
I'm brazilian, and I'm baffled by the fact that ufologists outside Brazil hardly even talk about the official night of UFOS. In May 19, 1986, 21 objects were sighted in the sky, and detected by the air force's radars. Those objects were observed by numerous witnesses in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Goiás, including my mother and several of my older friends. Fearing it could be an attack, military aircrafts (F-5E Tigers II and Dassault Mirages III) were deployed to investigate the objects and, if necessary, defend the country. That's when it gets interesting. The pilots described multicolored objects that flew away at over 2500mph whenever the jets got closer. They moved so fast that they disappeared from the radars as they accelerated. The whole event lasted 3 hours. The next day, the Air Force Secretary Octávio Júlio Moreira Lima held a press conference where he confirmed the events. Several proeminent figures of the army and the government gave their statements and they promised to issue a full report of the incident as soon as they reached conclusions. Soon after, the american government got involved and the report was not released. Also, the brazilian air force began to offer lousy explanations for the fact and the fuzz died down over time. In 2009, brazilian ufologists obtained, through our own version of the Freedom Of Information Act, the release of the 1986 report, and its conclusions are remarkable. They documented the whole ordeal and came to the following conclusion:
"In face of the observed facts in almost all sightings, the Command poses that the phenomena are solid and reflect some sort of intelligence, due to the capacity of tracking and keeping some distance from the observators, and also flying in formation, while not necessarily tripulated."
The most remarkable thing that happened that night was the contact made by Sergio Mota da Silva, an air traffic controller from São José dos Campos. He was the first air force official to sight the ufos, and he promptly warned São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro's control towers, that confirmed the plots on the radar. Then, he took control of the runway lights, and flashed them, trying to make contact with the UFO he could actually see. He reports that whenever the lights were dimmer, the UFO would come closer to the airport. Everytime the lights were brighter, it would fly away.
This is an officially confirmed UFO sighting. Among the documents released by the brazilian government, there's also lots of other cases and researches conducted by the army concerning UFOs, and many of them came to positive conclusions. Are there any researchers outside Brazil studying those documents? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
P.S.: sorry about my poor english, folks.
