So I live in Colorado, in the Boulder area, so whenever I see anything here I assume it's from Buckley AFB or a NOAA/NIST/etc thing.

But there is something that has been bothering me for awhile and I can't find a logical explanation and I want someone else to find one for me! So sometime in February, a friend and I were lying out in a small grassy lot just enjoying an unseasonably clear and warm February day. I can't remember the exact day unfortunately.

There was literally not a visible cloud in the sky, which is not unusual for Colorado. It was about 2 pm. So we are just lying there quietly, looking into the sky periodically and enjoying the sun. I had my eyes closed. Suddenly my friend says "Huh. What's that?" and points up into the sky. I opened my eyes and after a bit of adjustment I spotted the object he was pointing to.

It was a very small, but obviously metallic or shiny round object that appeared to be hovering. We kind of assumed it was a weather balloon and ignored it for a bit. An hour passed and it popped back into our field of vision and appeared to start slowly drifting north and a touch west at a consistent speed. It was visibly drifting at this point. Eventually, it started to move back the other way, in a southeasterly direction. I don't recall the direction of any breeze but it was a remarkably calm and clear day–basically, hardly any tree branches moving, though that probably means nothing at significant altitude. At all times the object appeared to be the same size, shape, and distance as it was when we originally spotted it. It was visible for about four hours to our knowledge. We looked for weather balloon launches and school projects that day, but couldn't find much.

This is pretty much what it looked like. I'm sure there's some obvious explanation, so I'm pretty much just curious if anyone knows exactly what they are.

Sorry if this isn't the right place; I only casually browse here and it seemed to be within the rules listed in the sidebar. If not, could anyone suggest a place to pose this question? Thanks!
