Most of us know the actual color of a dolphin it will appear to be gray. So imagine seeing a dolphin that is pink? Well, it turns out that such a thing is possible but quite rare.
In fact, since the year 1962, there have only been 14 documented incidents of seeing such a dolphin in existence. Well, now there seems to be yet another of these rare but quite beautiful dolphins living in the waters off the state of Louisiana. This lovely dolphin which has now been determined to be female since it is now apparently pregnant has been appropriately named Pinky. Pinky has apparently become somewhat of a local celebrity as many have come to just catch a glimpse of the rare dolphin swimming in the water.
In fact, there is now footage out of Youtube that was filmed by Captain Eric Rue who works for the Calcasieu Chater Service of Pinky. The footage is called Pinky at play. As for Pinky’s color and how it came about many Marine Biologists believe that Pinky is an Albino dolphin. There are those who argue this isn’t the case since albino means being extremely white, not pink. But according to experts, this is exactly what Pinky is, despite her pink hue. So, the question now is will Pinky’s apparent offspring be an albino dolphin as well? In other words, follow in their mother’s footsteps of being a local celebrity.
Well, Marine biologists also feel that odds are the new dolphin won’t be. According to Marine biologists, odds are the Pinky’s parents were both dolphins of common color who just happened to have the gene that caused the albino mutation. So, in Pinky’s case unless she found another albino to mate with which is highly unlikely her offspring won’t be pink like her. So, apparently Pinky doesn’t need to worry about her child upstaging her in the future.
