The whistling vessel is a ritual instrument of which there is very little information (uses, meanings, functions). It is a Prehispanic vessel with a complex acoustic design whose sound device allows the movement of water from one vessel to another, producing a kind of mono or bitonal whistle that – according to the movement we give – produces various tunings or songs In relation to its timbre and the duration of its sound. Its internal structure houses a curious system of filtering the air from where its song takes place. The oldest ones were found in the south of Ecuador with more than 3000 years, belonging to the Chorrera culture. According to the Andean tradition, these water whistling vessels harmonically contain the four elements manifested in sound. Earth, fire, air, water.
