Hey All –
I just wanted to post this real quick about a really strange experience last night. This happened around 9pm EST last night, in Connecticut, USA.
I was sitting outside on the phone with my old man. I was squatting down lighting a cigarette when suddenly I heard what sounded like static electricity above my head. It was so loud, and so jolting, that I actually jumped up and started to look around me to find out wtf it was. At the same time, my phone call with my dad got jumbled for a second, and my dad's voice turned "robotic". That robot voice lasted for a good 10 seconds. My dad heard the phone go haywire, as well. He made one comment about it before continuing on with what he was saying: "Aliens". I don't know why, but hearing him only say "Aliens" and then moving on was rather unsettling… even if he was just joking.
The most interesting thing, though, was right after I heard the noise I noticed a light appear in the sky. It wasn't there before the noise, that I'm certain of as I always make it a point to look up when I'm outside (a product of being a big astrophotography buff) and I didn't see it there before. In fact, there were no other stars in the sky.. just that one light.
It's possible the light was a star, or Venus or something, but it didn't look quite right. I can't really explain it. The light didn't have any rings around it, as I'm used to seeing because of our atmosphere and such. It also wasn't the standard bright white, but it had more of a yellow/greenish hue to it. It also looked like it was hovering (very slow motions up and down). I didn't take any pictures or videos of the light as all I had on me was my cellphone (my astro stuff is at our lake house) and I know exactly what the end product would have been — a worthless picture/video that looks like a spec on the lens.
I eventually continued on the conversation with my dad, a little unsettled. We talked for about 15-20 minutes (I had 3 or 4 cigarettes while I was outside on the phone). Before I went back into my condo, I looked up where I saw the light. It was gone. I figured a cloud covered it, even though I didn't see any cloud cover. Even still, believing it was a cloud I decided to sit outside and wait for the cloud to pass just to verify. I waited out there for another 30 minutes, all through my meeting with my student (I remote teach at nights, and had a 9:30 meeting). The light never came back, which I can (mostly) verify as I fixated on that point the best I could through the meeting with my student. I never saw any other stars/lights, either.
The whole experience gave me the "heebie jeebies". Anybody experience anything similar?
The sound was a lot like this, though it only lasted for a few seconds.
The light was really close to this color. Note that that's not the light I saw or anything, just a picture I could find of the color of the light.
