The #1 Paranormal News Site
This journey started on April Fools’ Day 2016. Someone posted a fictional advertisement stating KitKat had cooked up its strangest chocolate creation yet: sushi-flavored. That claim was quite the boast. Since 2002, Nestle, the owner of the KitKat brand, marketed over 300 flavor varieties in Japan. Some of those have been shocking combinations. The flavors include lemon vinegar, green tea, and sake. Thousands of people expressed their disappointment upon learning the story was fake news. However, Nestle saw the interest in the potential sweet treat and decided to make it a reality.
Jump ahead nearly a year and sushi KitKat advertisements are driving people wild. For those interested in the actual flavor combination of sushi and chocolate wafer, prepare for disappointment. While the confections look like sushi rolls, there is no fish flavor. The bars come in three flavors: Uni sushi (sea urchin), Maguro sushi (tuna), and Tamago sushi (egg). Sold as a set, the sea urchin is actually mascarpone cheese and Hokkaido melon. The egg sushi tastes like pumpkin pudding. Finally, the tuna sushi tastes like raspberry. Additionally, the egg and sea urchin varieties come wrapped in seaweed. All three sit atop white rice that is drizzled with a white chocolate and wasabi mixture.
Sets of the special edition sushi KitKats are only available to people who patronize the swanky new KitKat Chocolatory shop in the Ginza neighborhood of Tokyo. Additionally, people who want to get their hands on the package need to spend at least 3,000 yen, or around $27 USD. The sushi KitKat collection is serving as the main promotion for the opening of the ninth Chocolatory in Japan’s capital city. However, the other eight are all in subway and train stations. Each store caters to KitKat devotees by selling exquisitely packaged chocolates. The new Chocolatory also features a KitKat café selling exclusive items. It opens on the second floor of the building in March. In addition, the café will allow customers to make their own original KitKat concoctions by selecting from a smorgasbord of toppings.
