Could it be that we are closer than ever to communicating with planets billions of light years away? It turns out according to many noted scientists this could very well be fact. Recently, scientists have picked up radio signals that seem to be coming from out in the galaxy. There is a belief that this fast radio bursts or FRB’s as they are called for short are coming from a dwarf galaxy that could be 3 billion light years away.

So, what is causing these signals? Well, scientists believe it could be caused by material being shot out of black holes, bursts of stars, and other cosmic activity. But there is also a belief that these radio signals could be caused by alien beings that are trying to make contact out in the galaxy. One of the reasons this theory is out there is the fact that FRB’s are commonly caused by radio waves being sent out from a source. As far as this theory goes one of the scientists at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Shriharsh Tendulkar was quoted as saying about the signals:

“Before we knew the distance to any FRBs, several proposed explanations for their origins said they could be coming from within or near our own Milky Way galaxy. We now have ruled out those explanations, at least for this FRB.”

So, are we a step forward to making contact with a galaxy outside of our own? Well, many feel this is encouraging news, and it could very well lead to us making this contact but there is still skepticism as Dr. Shami Chatterjee, from Cornell University was quoted as saying about the discovery.

“Finding the host galaxy of this FRB, and its distance, is a big step forward, but we still have much more to do before we fully understand what these things are.”

In any case, it would seem that there is some encouragement that this is the first sign of making some contact. Who knows what the next step will be. Perhaps we could very well come up with actual proof that there is life on other planets who do want to contact us.
