There is nothing really exciting about solar farms and panels, as they are typically arranged so that they form a grid of columns or rows. However, a solar power plant in Datong in China has deviated from the normal design, and they have their solar panels arranged to take on the shape of a giant panda.

Huge Panda Shaped Solar Panel Farm Generates 50 Megawatt

The China Merchants New Energy Group, which is the largest clean energy operator in China has moved away from the same boring grid design and designed their 248-acre solar farm giant panda shaped.

The first phase of the solar panel farm has been completed, and this is a 50-megawatt plant, and it completed on 30 June. The solar panel farm has just started to deliver power to a grid which is located to the northwest of China, and the company has got plans for the installation of a second panda shaped solar farm later on in the year.

Panda Power Plant Will Produce 3.2 Billion Kilowatt-Hours Of Energy In 25 Years

Not surprisingly the newly designed solar panel farm has been called the Panda Power Plant, and it is said to be able to produce 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of solar energy in only 25 years. The company has said that this should eliminate many millions of tons of coal that would have otherwise been needed to produce the electricity and therefore bring down the carbon emissions by around 2.74 million tons.

Once the system has been completed the Panda Power Plant is going to stretch over more than 1,500 acres. The China Merchants New Energy Group worked alongside the United Nations Development Program to ensure that the Panda Power Plant became a reality. The project is just one part of a much bigger effort in regards to boosting awareness among the younger generation in China when it comes to clean energy said the UNDP in a statement.

The two groups are hoping to get together to build even more solar plant farms that are shaped like pandas within the next five years.
