Imagine a creature that lives under water with razor sharp teeth. At first, this creature known as a hagfish may seem quite harmless. It has smooth grayish skin and appears to have no spine but all head. But that is till it finds it prey than the mouth opens to display something terrifying.
Horrible Ocean Beast Caught on Film
The mouth balloons out to reveal the razor-sharp teeth. The hagfish than takes on the look of some terrifying monster of slimy alien. For anyone who has seen any of the Alien films, the creature closely resembles the nightmarish creatures in these films.
The only saving grace of the hagfish right now is that tends to mostly prey on corpses. If the hagfish senses a dead animal, fish or even human nearby, it will burrow near its prey. Than the hagfish than latches on with their feelers located on the top of their head, than use their razor sharp teeth to devour the corpse. Not exactly a pleasant thing to watch but there are now videos out there online of this occurrence taking place for those of you who feel you have the stomach to watch it. Also, keep in mind that this will be graphic and could cause nightmares, just some warnings before actually watching this footage.
The irony is that the hagfish has been around 360 million years, but for the most part we haven’t heard much about it or seen it. Well, this isn’t exactly the type of undersea life that an aquarium would want to acquire. Yes, it’s even worse than sharks and piranhas. Again, the videos show just how terrifying this creature truly. Perhaps the main concern now of the hagfish is like other undersea creatures that have found that they need to feed in other ways due to climate change will the hagfish come closer to shore lines? There were reports that the hagfish was terrorizing British beaches, but the claim was never validated. But it is a frightening thought and one that no doubt could be the basis of the horror movie. Let’s just pray that if it is made into a film that it remains fiction and never becomes fact.
