Thousands in taxpayer money given to NSW UFO group – Daily Mail

Thousands of taxpayer dollars have been given to a UFO enthusiasts group, and a disbelieving federal minister wants to know why.

Social Services Minister Christian Porter is leading a probe to determine how Tuggerah Lakes UFO Group on the New South Wales central coast has received nearly $6,000 in government grants since 2013.

Mr Porter said he was unaware that his department had approved the grants.

The funding, uncovered by The Daily Telegraph, was initially provided by the Labor government to assist with the cost of transporting volunteers with disabilities.

‘I’m sure they’re very nice people and there are lots of volunteers who are getting something out of it, but looking at it from my perspective, representing taxpayers, it didn’t seem to pass a common sense test,’ Mr Porter told the ABC.

‘I asked the department to hold the transmission of funds until they could give me a little more detail around what the group does.’

Records state the department approved $2,645 for the UFO group this year.

Tuggerah Lakes UFO Group has 800 member on Facebook.

The group was set up to ‘share information on UFO and related topics. Support and encourage like-minded people. Encourage UFO Disclosure, welcome new members, respect for various beliefs.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Tuggerah Lakes UFO Group for comment.
