Erdogan accuses US-led coalition of giving support to Isis
American-led troops have been working with Syrian rebels fighting to wrestle power from President Bashar al-Assad but has refrained from supporting terrorist groups in the Middle Eastern country.
However, during a speech on Tuesday in Ankara President Erdogan’s suggested that the US are helping a variety of Islamist militant group including Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) and Democratic Union Party (PYG). He claimed that he had photos and video evidence to verify his claim.
President Erdogan said that the Saudi Arabia and Qatar should be part of the meeting Russia has scheduled to have with Iran and Turkey in Kazakhstan next month as part of Syrian peace efforts. According to him, both countries have shown goodwill by giving support to Syria. He further stated that though the security forces have not kept their promises, the peace efforts will not cease.
Turkey which shares border with Syria has faced stern resistance in the campaign to fight for Al-Bab. Erdogan complained that the West should be supporting Turkey instead of YPG and PYG who work with ISIS.
The number of causalities is on the rise as the military fights to dislodge ISIS jihadist from the town of Al-Bab and Turkey is becoming impatient that the US hasn’t provided support for the Turkish operation against the extremists.
This is not the first Erdogan has made a claim like this. In November while on a visit in Pakistan, he alleged that the weapons being used by ISS were western-made.
Violence in Syria began as far back as 2011 and escalated into a civil war a year later as rebel brigades tried to battle government soldiers for control of major cities.
