There were 14 UFO sightings reported in Virginia in December in 2016. There were 100 other sightings reported in communities all across the state last year, according to the National UFO Reporting Center.
We’re not saying there are or aren’t UFOs — there are a lot explanations for what we see in the sky, and some explanations are more grounded than others. There was even a report on Christmas Eve in Charlottesville of “orange and red lights in the sky that completely reversed direction in flight.” And we all know what that could be.
Other sightings reported in December came from residents in Norfolk, Fredericksburg, Buckingham, Waynesboro, Stephenson, North Chesterfield, Virginia Beach, Arlington, Raphine, Chester and Ashland.
The National UFO Reporting Center has been around since 1974 and it investigates UFO sightings and has put together a list of more than 90,000 sightings around the world.
Other Virginia communities that reported sightings in 2016 include: Alexandria, Woodbridge, Ashburn, Reston, Springfield, Prince William County, Spotsylvania, Manassas, Falls Church, Gainesville, Fairfax, Aldie, Stafford, Burke, Centreville, Manassas Park and more.
There’s a variety of sighting scenarios, but there’s one variable that comes up once and again: people walking their dog when they looked up.
A Tazewell resident reporting a sighting in November and noted, “Was walking dog looked up at sky what i thought was a satellite it was joined by three more lights.”
The scenario you don’t see often: Someone playing on their phone when they looked up. Go figure.
