NASA astronaut, Jeff Williams, took astounding video of Earth from the International Space Station. His hope was a video of positivity and a way to celebrate the uniqueness of Earth and its inhabitants. The video creates a very uplifting and inspiring experience. A former NASA astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell explained what it is like to gaze onto Earth from space, “You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.”
High-Definition Video of Earth Shows True Beauty
In this video, the immense blue of the ocean can be seen. Cloud formations can be seen. Land masses like sand dunes, forests, and agricultural areas can be seen. It shows how the products come together to support our civilization. It shows our uniqueness. The sun glint shows how if effects the cloud formations and weather patterns. Williams hope for the video is to show the emotions and memories he had while filming the video and how it comes together to form the unique experience on Earth.
I feel he captured this well. I was in awe at how beautiful the Earth was. The brilliant blue oceans were just as beautiful as when I saw the coast line in Italy and St. Tropez. I enjoyed seeing the agricultural areas. I live in one, so I felt like I had that in common with the video. It made me feel like I mattered. The video did two things for me. It showed that we are all the same on Earth. We need to come together and support all of the civilization. Stop fighting, stop the wars, stop the poverty. I am just like my neighbor. The second thing it did for me was to show that we are all unique in our own way. Use our uniqueness to harness power and do good to others. Change the world. Provide the light to others that are hurting and in need.
