According to sources inside the new Presidents administration, Trump will take action to authorize construction of two pipelines that have made it into the news for being well controversial and were problematic for the last administration in the White House. These pipelines are the Dakota Access and the Keystone XL. According to insiders one of the first things that Trump plans to do now that he is in office is go ahead with the construction of these pipelines which could cause a fire storm in the News Media if not more protest.
For those who aren’t aware yet, the Dakota Access Pipeline was up for major debate last year and even stemmed protestors making camp in an area of the North Dakota territory near the Sioux Reservation at Standing Rock. The reason why hundreds of Native American’s and others including War Veterans took such a stand was that the plan was to dig right through the land that many believed housed sacred Native American artifacts and even sacred burial grounds. In the winter of 2016, the group won their victory when President Barack Obama chose not to go ahead with the digging of the land to create the pipeline. But everyone including the protestors knew that the victory could be short-lived since before long a new administration would be in power. Now apparently, the fight could start up yet again.
Than there is the Keystone XL, which is being created by TransCanada. This one has also met with much criticism and was even rejected by the Obama Administration. The reason for the negativity surrounding it, first it is a costly venture going into almost four billion dollars. Second, it has met with scrutiny from environmental groups that feel that this pipeline could be hazardous to the eco system of our planet. Some have argued that an oil spill from a pipeline such as this one would be if created could be catastrophic.
So, the question now is will these two pipelines that so many have been opposed to now become a reality? There is nothing concrete to go on at this point. Donald Trump has made it clear that he want to create infrastructure to create new jobs and whether some like it or not the constructing of these pipelines will be a step toward that. But at what price is what is up for debate. In any case, so far no one from the Trump Administration including the new President himself has confirmed that they will go ahead with these pipelines, so far this is only hearsay.
