Could humans capable of transforming into animals exist?
To most of us, werewolves and vampires are not frightening creatures. They have been too overused in films and fiction that they inspire chuckles rather than fear. Nonetheless, the world is full of mysterious events that people look into religion, folklore, and mythology to explain if they defy scientific explanation. And some of these reports of mysterious events describe what we would call werewolves.
The werewolf of traditional European legend is a human who can transform into a wolf at will. It is similar to the American Indian Skinwalker, which has the power to transform into a variety of different animals. Do werewolves always live in the wilderness, or do they sometimes integrate themselves into human society? A recent report of what might be a werewolf in Pennsylvania suggests that werewolves do sometimes live among humans, appearing to live normal lives.
Lon Strickler of the “Phantoms and Monsters” website recently spoke in detail about a man who claims to have encountered a shapeshifter. The man claims to have witnessed a man strip naked, transform into a wolf-like creature, and claw at him, cutting his arms, though he was able to escape.
Lon Strickler recently received the following information…which began with this message:
I don’t really know where else to go with my story. I warn you if you are a purely rational person you will have a hard time believing this. Anyway, here is my story.
The witness did not claim to have encountered the man for the first time in the woods but knew of him as a man who lived in the same town. The man is said to have possessed a belt covered in fur that he put on before transforming. Could the belt have been a magical artifact that allowed him to make these transformations?
The story may come off as particularly wild and hard to believe, even if one believes that some paranormal phenomenon is simply real. But, the region of Pennsylvania that the story takes place in is known for sightings of monsters. As well as sightings of Bigfoot-like creatures, there have been other reports of werewolves over the last few years. Unlike werewolves, there is a considerable amount of evidence for the existence of more frequently witnessed sasquatches. Could the two creatures somehow be related to each other? Perhaps stories of both Bigfoot and the werewolf are descriptions of a single very strange entity, which we have a very poor understanding of. Could they be humans that practice dark and forgotten arts?
